Full job description

We are looking for a Project Design Engineer to join and contribute to the design, development, and execution of seating projects, while playing an integral role in problem-solving, project coordination, and team support. This role requires independent decision-making, leadership in small projects, and training of junior engineers. You will proactively address technical challenges, ensure project requirements are met, and drive process improvements to support engineering excellence and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Project Execution & Technical Problem-Solving

  • Independently identify and resolve common project-related challenges in design, manufacturing, and coordination.
  • Maintain project requirements as outlined by leadership or customers, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and business objectives.
  • Develop and refine part designs for standard production and custom applications, ensuring manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support execution of strategic plans for new projects, providing technical insight and ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Create and update 2D CAD layouts and 3D models. Participate in 3D modeling to complete design and bill of materials accurately.
  • Prepare detailed documentation, drawings, and revisions.

Leadership & Team Support

  • Assign tasks to other team members as needed, ensuring workload distribution supports project deadlines.
  • Train junior engineers, sharing technical expertise and best practices to develop team capabilities.
  • Support team members in task completion, stepping in as needed to resolve bottlenecks and maintain project momentum.
  • Receive and implement professional growth, development, and mentorship, while also providing support and training to others.

Engineering Change Management (ECR Process)

  • Follow and support the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process, ensuring modifications are accurately documented and integrated.
  • Facilitate and lead meetings with project coordinators, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and IT, ensuring alignment on ECRs and process updates.
  • Support process changes, contributing to continuous improvement efforts that enhance efficiency and product quality.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with internal and external customers, ensuring transparency and alignment on project progress.
  • Provide feedback on improvement opportunities, helping refine workflows and optimize team performance.
  • Understand and support the value stream, ensuring designs and processes contribute to overall business success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Preferred).
  • 5 years of experience preferred in a mechanical design engineering role, with expertise in product development and manufacturing.
  • Advanced 2D and 3D modeling skills, with proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (Preferred).
  • Proven ability to solve technical problems using analytical methods and a structured approach.
  • Experience leading small projects and collaborating across teams to drive solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and coordinate efforts across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and implement process changes, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficient at solving problems with analytical methods, applying data-driven solutions to improve designs and processes.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation: The base salary range for this full-time position is $70,000 – $90,000. Within this range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including but not limited to: relevant work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, and complexity of the role.
