Full job description
Job Purpose:
- The Network Technician at company is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the college’s network infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity and efficient data communication. This role involves troubleshooting network issues, implementing network solutions, and supporting the IT team in delivering high-quality network services to staff and students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain network equipment including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation.
- Assist in the design and implementation of network solutions to meet the college’s needs.
- Collaborate with the IT team to support network-related projects and initiatives.
- Provide technical support and guidance to staff and students regarding network usage.
- Conduct regular network assessments and audits to ensure compliance with security policies.
- Maintain documentation of network configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Stay updated with the latest network technologies and industry trends to recommend improvements.
- Support the IT team in managing network security measures to protect data integrity and confidentiality.
Required Education:
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience working with network hardware such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience in maintaining and supporting LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of network protocols and services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
- Proficiency in using network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues effectively and efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Certification such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent is highly desirable.
